Gnome bandit: UK police hunt ‘elderly woman’ suspected of thieving ornaments
Police in the UK are looking for an “elderly woman” in relation to a string of garden gnome and ornament thefts from private residences, and a cemetery in Derbyshire.

Homeowners across Derbyshire have reported the mysterious disappearance of plants, pots and garden gnomes in recent weeks.

Police say they want to speak to an elderly woman who has been spotted driving a dark colored Volvo Estate in the areas.

A number of garden ornaments were stolen from a property in Horsley Woodhouse between 6pm on Sunday, March 8 and 6.30am on Monday, March 9.

In what may have been a copycat theft, a residence on Derby Road in Ripley reported items had been stolen from the property on Thursday, March 31.

Several decorative items have also been stolen from St Clement’s Cemetery in Horsley in recent months.

PC Anna Welberry, from the Heanor and Loscoe Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “We’re urging local people who may have details about any of the crimes to come forward and let us know.

We want to speak to any residents who have CCTV cameras in the areas as they may have video footage of the alleged offenders.

We will be increasing patrols and are also asking residents to step up their home security including installing alarms, locks or lights, in a bid to deter this type of crime.”
