Fidel Castro was a Cuban communist revolutionary, politician and leader of Cuba. He was prime minister from 1959 to 1976, and then served as president of Cuba from 1976 to 2008. Castro was a controversial figure and seen by many as a dictator. He was the longest-serving non-royal head of state in the 20th and 21st centuries, and died in 2016 at the age of 90.
