Russian bob grabs silver at European champs

Russian veteran Aleksandr Zubkov has led his four-man bobsled to silver at the European Championships in Germany’s Altenberg, meddling between the two host quartets.

Maximilian Arndt piloted Germany 2 to victory in the event, which is also part of the World Cup. This was his first gold medal at a high-profile four-man bobsled event. Arndt, Marko Huebenbecker, Alexander Roediger and Martin Putze were fastest in both runs for an aggregate time of 1 minute, 49.87 seconds, ahead of Russia 1 by 0.66 seconds. The Russian team of Aleksandr Zubkov, Philipp Egorov, Dmitry Trunenkov and Nikolay Khrenkov were second fastest in each run. Germany 1 with Thomas Florschuetz, Ronny Listner, Kevin Kuske and ThomasBlaschek trailed by 0.92 seconds in third. Zubkov leads the overall World Cup standings after five events with 829 points, just four ahead of Florschuetz, with Arndt third on 779.
