'One of the sweetest people': Stars pay tribute as former WWE diva Ashley Massaro passes away at 39
Former WWE superstar Ashley Massaro has passed away at the age of 39 after being transported to hospital from her Long Island home.

Details of her death are currently unknown, as Massaro passed away just 10 days from her 40th birthday.

Massaro's untimely death has caused shockwaves around the wrestling world, and led to a host of her former WWE colleagues posting tributes and memories to their social media.

A statement from the WWE said: "We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former Superstar Ashley Massaro.

"She performed in WWE from 2005-2008 and was beloved by her fellow Superstars and fans around the world.

"WWE offers its condolences to Ashley's family and friends."

Her former tag-team partner Maria Kanellis-Bennett shared: "I have no words. Ashley was my tag partner at Wrestlemania. My sometimes road wife. We did countless photo shoots and press days together.

"It seems like yesterday Ashley was a major part of my life and then our worlds changed and now she is gone. I'm heartbroken for her family."

WWE legend Mick Foley posted his memories, saying: "This is just awful news - Ashley Massaro is gone. She was only 39.

"She lived in the same town as me...I loved seeing her around. She was always so nice...and now she’s gone. #RIPAshleyMassaro"

And fellow WWE Diva Torrie Wilson offered words of advice, posting: "I can’t even begin to explain how devastated I am to hear about @ashleymassaro11 - legit one of the sweetest people I’ve ever known.

"When we fall into a dark place it can seem like it will never change but if you are there PLEASE keep hope & reach out for help."

Massaro burst onto the scene with the WWE in 2005 after winning their 'Raw Diva Search' talent show, which saw her earn a $250,000 one-year contract with the promotion.

She proved to be a popular addition to the roster and was eventually given a title match against Melina at WrestleMania 23 in 2007, and performed at the WWE's annual showpiece event for a second time a year later.

During her time with the WWE, she became a Playboy cover girl and also starred in the reality TV show Survivor.
