When the Americans needed Pakistan’s support in driving the Soviets out of Afghanistan, they quietly looked the other way as Islamabad put the finishing touches on a nuclear bomb. Around 40 years later, the same powers are at loggerheads, this time over Ukraine, whose president announced a few months ago his interest in developing nuclear weapons. Would the Americans look the other way yet again to undermine Moscow? To discuss this, Oksana is joined by Asad Durrani, the former director general of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence.
