New news & war on Iran (E280)

Amongst his many other claims to fame Julian Assange has certainly paved the way for a burgeoning alternative online media market. One of the most significant is 21st Century Wire, an indispensable addition to the plethora of new news sites when trying to understand what’s going on and why. Its executive editor is Patrick Henningsen, so, we invited him in to the studio this week to tell us more about how independent news gatherers are challenging mainstream news narratives.

It’s almost impossible to believe that after Iraq, Libya and Syria the US is steaming towards yet another war, this time against the Islamic Republic of Iran. However, European governments, including the UK, which once spoke in stereo with the US on military adventures, have just thrown a spanner in the works by contradicting US rhetoric. So, it looks like this time, if war breaks out, the US will stand or fall on its own. How we got here and so quickly is something we all need to know. So, we invited Syed Mohsin Abbas, journalist, broadcaster, and documentary producer, to help us find out.
