Historically, the European continent is well ahead of all others in terms of the number, scale and deadliness of the wars fought on its territory and, until recently, Europe had also been one of the major recipients of the so-called peace dividend — the prosperity and growth that came from managing geopolitical tensions diplomatically. Which way is it likely to lean, now that the West’s latest war for peace project in Ukraine seems to have run aground?
