When Charlie Chaplin started calling for the United States to help the USSR in the war against Nazism, it was the beginning of his downfall. Soon after, he was accused of communist sympathies, the media turned against him, and he was ultimately forced to leave America. Nevertheless, the United States did open up a second front and WWII ended with the defeat of the Third Reich and Imperial Japan. Can that offer any lessons for the present moment in the US-Russia relationship?
