The hypocrisy of activism

Protests concerning social issues such as global warming and the so-called ‘wage gap’ have been relatively commonplace in recent decades. But nowadays activists seem to be taking a more drastic approach to bringing attention to the cause of the day. Can we say acts such as tossing paint on priceless pieces of artwork or gluing one’s self to a road are effective in garnering the sympathy needed for whatever change is being demanded, or do they turn people off and even against these causes?
