Is the US in full-blown meltdown? With Biden declaring he won the election and Trump insisting the same, it is still unclear days on as to who will take office in January. Whatever the outcome, it appears to be the US media which will continue to get it wrong. The ‘blue wave’ predicted to sweep away the ‘worst president ever’ failed to materialize, and most flipped states were won by wafer-thin margins. As the counting continued, we invited Stacy Herbert to give her thoughts on this closely fought election.
‘National treasure’ is an accolade arguably bestowed far too liberally today. But there are few national treasures who have earned the honour by climbing back from vilification, imprisonment and standing up for what they believed was the right thing to do. Nelson Mandela is one such person – once declared a terrorist by Margaret Thatcher – and Muhammad Ali is another. As a young man, Ali faced much adversity for his beliefs but never lost faith even when he was stripped of his livelihood, his passport and his liberty. By his side was his wife, Dr. Khalilah Camacho-Ali, and she has documented this time in her book set to be released in January. She joined Sputnik to give us a glimpse of a life shared with Muhammad Ali and how she supported and helped him through the early years.
