World economies and ‘Smart Power’? (E325)

President Trump thinks it will all be over by Easter, even though evidence suggests that the US is rapidly becoming the epicenter of the pandemic. But are we all paying the price for an American economy driven by instant gratification, and are we all prepared for a future society where we can’t get fast food, fast deliveries, fast returns? Max Keiser knows a thing or two about brokerage, banking, finance, and world economies, so he made a virtual appearance in the Sputnik studio to talk, amongst other things, about paper gold, paper oil and, of course, cryptocurrency.

Professor Tim Anderson lectures on political economy and is also an activist who has written widely on conflicts around the world, particularly those which rely on proxy armies and with the intent of regime change. A strategy euphemistically called ‘Smart Power’ and originating in Latin America, there appears to be a doubling down on countries such as Venezuela and Iran now under the cloak of the coronavirus. But could this be the last days of empire with a new system set to emerge, constructed by the people, or will it be business as usual when we come through the crisis? He came into the studio to give his insights.
