Maldives declares state of emergency amid political turmoil

Maldives president Abdulla Yameen has declared a 15 day state of emergency for the island nation. Security forces, which had surrounded government buildings, including the parliamentary building in the capital Male Sunday, stormed the Supreme Court Monday. Police also arrested former president Maumoon Abdul Gayoom at his home, and subsequently charged him with trying to overthrow the government.
