Islamic militants down helicopter in Somalia

Suspected rebels have shot down a helicopter gunship in the Somalian capital of Mogadishu. More than 30 people have been killed and more than 100 wounded in separate clashes.

Reports say an anti-aircraft missile hit the helicopter.

It is the second day of battles as joint Ethiopian and government forces attempt to crush an insurgency by Islamists.

The United Nations Refugee Agency says 12,000 people have fled the capital in the last week alone.

The International Committee of the Red Cross says it is the worst fighting for more than 15 years.
