Finmeccanica eyes Russian projects

With Russian and Italian representatives meeting in Sochi, Finmeccanica head Giorgio Zappa says a recently agreed joint venture with Russian Railways will contribute significantly to the Russian economy.

GZ:  “The object of the agreement is to implement the new technology to Russian railways, essentially in communications and security, control system, for a certain number of kilometers of the trucks circuit of Russian railways, a certain number of station of Russian railways.”

RT:  Can Finmeccanica contribute its technology and expertise to Russian led jet building project called Sukhoi Superjet.  What exactly is the contribution and could this experience be expanded to new aerospace projects?

GZ:  “This is most important project between Italy and Russia.  Sukhoi and Alenia launch in the market the original aircraft and 90 seats, in the regional market.  Now the contribution is these aircraft will, was built in Russia, but the support of Italy and Alenia particularly is in the activity of certification, and support and training, and the customization of the aircraft, through the jointly company in Italy, called Superjet International.”

RT:  Is Finmeccanica considering other projects in Russia?

GZ:  “ About the other project certainly the most important will be the framework with the, following the Post Italian, with the Russian Post to study the logistic automation and logistic support  of Russian post.  At the same time, through the important experience of Post Italian to enter into final service to work for the Russian Post.”
