People power: Beijing commuters free man trapped under train (VIDEOS)
Beijing commuters showed there’s strength in numbers when they united to rescue a man trapped between a train and a station platform.

Video uploaded to Weibo purports to show the dramatic rescue at the Beijing Metro Subway Dongzhimen station Thursday evening, when commuters and station staff joined together to free the man.

The South China Morning Post reports the man, said to be in his 40’s, jumped over the safety barrier to the tracks as the Metro Line 2 train was pulling into the platform. Video footage uploaded to Weibo by Beijing Metro shows the moment the man jumps over the barrier.

Although the train driver hit the emergency brakes to avoid striking the commuter, he became stuck between the train and the safety barrier, the Shanghaiist reports.

Station staff and police attempted a rescue, but it was only when members of the public added their combined strength that the man was successfully freed.

The crowd can be heard saying, “One, two, three,” before eventually pushing the train hard enough to release him. A round of applause can be heard on the video, which has been viewed more than 11 million times.

“Thank you for letting us see such a touching scene!” one commenter said.

“Fortunately, you come in time!” said another.

The Beijing metro said the man was taken to hospital after being rescued. One of the rescuers told Beijing Daily News they saw "a lot of blood,” and had a “feeling his state is not very good."
