Black metal artist unwittingly elected to Norwegian town council
Gylve “Fenriz” Nagell, better known for his role in the band Darkthrone, agreed to run in the election to make up numbers for the council’s “backup list”, but never anticipated that he would be successful.

“They called and asked if I wanted to be on the list [of backup representatives],” explained Fenriz to Clrvynt.
“I said yeah, thinking I would be like 18th on the list and I wouldn’t really have to do anything. They just need a list to be able to … well, it’s hard to talk local politics in another language.”
I really love that story about Fenriz being voted to his town council and the picture of him with his cat.— Cheryl Carter (@Cheryl_Prime) September 9, 2016
It seems the cat (who’s name is roughly translated to Peanut Butter) was enough to entice voters and now Nagell is required to fill the role for two years before he is allowed to step down.
“I wasn’t too pleased, and I’m not too pleased about it. It’s boring. There’s not a lot of money in that, either, I can tell you!,” said the new Councilman.
I don't know how the hell you get "accidentally" elected to city council or whatever, but good luck to Fenriz with that, I guess.— Gene Pool Urine (@ThyKingdomScvm_) September 13, 2016
“Basically, I have to step in when the usual people who go to the big meetings are sick or something. Then I have to go sit there and feel stupid among the straight people.”
