A US Secret Service agent has died after suffering a stroke during US President Donald Trump’s visit to his Turnberry golf resort in Scotland.
The agent fell ill on Sunday when he had been working on “presidential protection." He subsequently received care from Scottish medics, but died on Tuesday, with his family beside him.
The agent, who had 19 years of experience, was hailed by the US Secret Service as a “dedicated professional of the highest order.”
The service’s statement went on to thank “medical personnel in Scotland, in addition to the members of the White House Medical Unit and Police Scotland who provided exceptional care and support for a member of our family.”
Trump’s visit to his Scottish property was disrupted by numerous and varied protests. An activist from Greenpeace paraglided overhead as the president arrived with a sign bearing the slogan: “Trump: Well Below Par.” Others occupied sections of the golf course, haranguing Trump with chants.
