US President Donald Trump will visit the UK on Friday, July 13, his spokesperson announced. Mass protests are expected to greet Trump’s arrival, with organizers already vowing to demonstrate against the American leader.
Trump previously cancelled a trip to the UK, refusing to open the new US embassy in London, which relocated from Mayfair to the banks of the Thames. He blamed the Obama administration for a "bad deal" on the embassy, despite the fact that the move was agreed under George W. Bush.
The US president has also maintained an ongoing feud with London Mayor Sadiq Khan, who in turn has called for protests to be held should Trump visit the UK capital.
Sir Kim Darroch, Britain's ambassador to the US, tweeted that he was "delighted" by the announcement. Trump and UK Prime Minister Theresa May are expected to hold bilateral talks. Relations between the pair seem to be improving after they, along with French President Emmanuel Macron, recently took part in airstrikes against the Syrian government following an alleged chemical attack in Douma.
The announcement comes during a busy day for Trump, in which he praised rapper Kanye West, said he’d take no action against FBI investigator Robert Mueller, and confirmed that Michael Cohen was in fact his lawyer, despite previously claiming not to be that close to him.
