A man escaping with items looted from a luxury vehicle in London was stopped in his tracks by a quick-thinking police officer who used a car door to knock the thief from a city bike.

Footage has emerged of the moment opportunist thief Jake Nedd failed to make-off with items taken from a Range Rover in Fulham, southwest London, on June 4.

Police officers managed to nab the escaping criminal in a spectacularly unconventional way.

After noticing the robbery in progress, a member of the Hammersmith and Fulham Council CCTV team alerted police.

A video of the officers’ quick-fire response shows a police van turning up at the scene. One cop then uses the vehicle door to push the escaping thief right off his would-be getaway bike.

During the incident Nedd can be seen crashing to the ground from a so-called ‘Boris Bike’ before being arrested on the spot.

Nedd, 31, has since been sentenced to 28 weeks in prison.

“This is another excellent piece of joint work by our CCTV team and the police,” said Cllr Sue Fennimore, of Hammersmith and Fulham Council.

“We’re determined to stop crime and protect public safety which is why we’ve put the highest number of council-funded police officers on the street in the borough’s history.”
