Manchester held a special vigil in the city center this evening to remember the victims of Monday’s deadly terror attack.

Mayor Andy Burnham invited people to attend the event in Albert Square from 6pm local time.

Speaking to the Manchester Evening News, city councilor Pat Karney said: “The town hall from early morning has had scores of inquiries from the public about how they can help out and do something for the families of those struck down by last night’s appalling events.”

All of the city’s leaders were expected to attend the multi-faith event, which will honor the 22 people killed and 59 injured in a suicide bomb attack at Manchester Arena following an Ariana Grande concert on Monday.

Many people are showing support online using the #WeStandTogether hashtag.

Manchester United offered its own tribute by observing a minute of silence before training on Tuesday.

Others, including ex-Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo, tweeted out their support.

Liverpool City Council officials have also announced plans to light up landmark buildings in the colors of the Union Jack as a show of solidarity with those affected by the Manchester attack.

Liverpool Town Hall, St. George’s Hall, and the Cunard Building in the center of the city will be cast in red, white, and blue after nightfall, and people are being encouraged to gather to pay their respects.

Similar events are being held all over the UK.
