Police in Edinburgh cordon off part of city center in response to incident

Police in riot gear cordoned off the Lawnmarket area of Edinburgh's city center Sunday amid reports of man with a bomb strapped to his chest. However, the situation was drawn to a “peaceful conclusion”.

Several Twitter users reported a heavy police presence in the Mound area of Edinburgh, with one claiming that the chaos had been instigated by a man who had a bomb strapped to his chest.

In a statement to RT, Police Scotland confirmed officers cordoned off an area in the Lawnmarket to pedestrians and traffic while they worked to resolve an incident “after receiving a report of concern for a male occupant”. 

We can confirm that a disturbance reported at an address in the Lawnmarket earlier today (Sunday) came to a peaceful conclusion at around 4:00pm,” said a spokesperson.

A man has since been detained in relation to this matter”.

Local roads have been fully reopened and the public is thanked for their patience and cooperation,” they concluded.
