Police in riot gear cordoned off the Lawnmarket area of Edinburgh's city center Sunday amid reports of man with a bomb strapped to his chest. However, the situation was drawn to a “peaceful conclusion”.
Several Twitter users reported a heavy police presence in the Mound area of Edinburgh, with one claiming that the chaos had been instigated by a man who had a bomb strapped to his chest.
In a statement to RT, Police Scotland confirmed officers cordoned off an area in the Lawnmarket to pedestrians and traffic while they worked to resolve an incident “after receiving a report of concern for a male occupant”.
“We can confirm that a disturbance reported at an address in the Lawnmarket earlier today (Sunday) came to a peaceful conclusion at around 4:00pm,” said a spokesperson.
“A man has since been detained in relation to this matter”.
“Local roads have been fully reopened and the public is thanked for their patience and cooperation,” they concluded.
