A 34-year-old man has been arrested for the murder of a motorist after their vehicles collided in Sussex.

The 79 year-old victim died at the scene after the suspect got out of his car, stabbed the man, before getting back into his vehicle and driving off.

Sussex Police said the man, from Worthing, was arrested by armed officers on Friday afternoon.

The incident took place on the A24 in Sussex and a spokesman for the county’s police force said on Friday morning they were looking into the incident.

"Police are investigating a fatal stabbing of a man following a collision between two cars on the A24, opposite the garden center at Rogers Farm, Findon, just before 8.40pm on Thursday,” he said.

"A suspect who was in the car in front got out and stabbed the driver of the other car. The air ambulance landed and paramedics carried out first aid on the victim but he died at the scene”.

The Sussex Police spokesman said, "inquiries are ongoing to trace the suspect,” adding that “the A24 is currently shut in both directions by the Black Horse pub.”

Detective Chief Inspector Karen Mizzi of the Surrey and Sussex major crime team said:"Specially trained officers are supporting the victim's family at this extremely difficult time,” she added.
