Golf's household name Tiger Woods has claimed his third title of the season to boost his bid to become the greatest player of all time.

The former world number one trailed by one shot going into the final day of the AT&T National, but he carded a solid round of two-under for a 69 to beat fellow American Bo Van Pelt by two strokes.“What an incredible week,” said Woods, remembering not only his performance but the tricky weather – record heat Friday, followed by a storm that toppled dozens of trees at Congressional and forced the tournament to keep spectators out Saturday. The victory gave Woods his 74th PGA trophy, and it means the 14-time major champion has overtaken the legendary Jack Nicklaus for the second most career wins on the American Tour.Only the late Sam Snead has more with 82 victories to his name, but at 36 Woods has plenty of time and talent to catch up.
