Another Russian, another gold, another world record in Paris

Yet another world record has been set by a Russian weightlifter at the World Championship taking place at Eurodisney on the outskirts of Paris.

Russia's European champion, Nadezhda Evstyukhina, improved on her own result of 162 kilograms in April setting the new world benchmark at 163 kilos.The newest world champion won her gold medal in the clean and jerk in the 75kg division, edging out the title defender, Svetlana Podobedova of Kazakhstan, by six kilos.This is the second world record to be broken by a Russian weightlifter in Paris, with Svetlana Tsarukaeva the first, setting a new mark in the 63kg division.The Paris tournament is widely regarded a qualifying round for the 2012 London Olympics. In order to get the maximum number of competitors to London, the Russians need to finish within the top six overall. They have so far managed to claim three golds, one silver and one bronze at the French tournament.
