A 75-year-old man, who was struck by a javelin during a junior athletics championship in Dusseldorf in Germany, has died without regaining consciousness.
The man, was working at the event as a referee, was hit in the throat by the javelin on Sunday. He went to measure a 17-year-old’s throw before the javelin had landed. Apparently he lost sight of it, which may have been caught by a gust of wind, as local media reports.He was treated by doctors at the scene before being taken to the city's University Hospital in grave condition, but died on Monday morning, according to the police.Around 300 junior athletes were taking part in the Wilhelm Unger Games, which were abandoned after the incident.
