Mustafina takes third in floor exercise

Russian artistic gymnasts have ended their participation at the London Games with a bronze medal for Aliya Mustafina.

Mustafina scored 14,900 points to finish third in the women’s floor exercises and grab her fourth medal in London.“It’s quite an unexpected medal for me. I wasn’t at all counting on it,” she told Sportbox.ru. “My rivals deserved their first and second places. As for me, the difficulty of my routine wasn’t that high and it was my least prepared exercise. But, of course, I still planned to finish the Olympics in style.” On Monday, the 17-year-old won Russia’s first gymnastics gold in 12 years as she triumphed on the uneven bars. She also took silver in the team competition and bronze in the individual all-round.   Meanwhile, the floor exercise gold went to Alexandra Raisman of the US, who was followed by Romania’s Catalina Ponor. Another Russian competitor, Kseniya Afanasieva, finished seventh in the final.Russia produced a solid display in artistic gymnastics at the London Games, with one gold, three silver and four bronze putting them third in the discipline’s medals count, behind the US and China.
