In order to change people's attitude towards the sport, sportswear firm Nike has opened ten running clubs in Moscow's parks, where aspiring athletes can get a professional opinion and some sage advice.
“When you run on asphalt or in a park, there is a big risk of getting injured. But we can recommend to our runners some special shoes and give a few tips about their technique,” jogging instructor Dmitry Fesenko said.
The foundation is trying to prove that running can be easy and exciting for everyone – from the very young to Olympic medalists.
“Of course, I do most of my training indoors. But I enjoy running in parks as well. There is a very special atmosphere there, and it is easier to breathe,” two-time Olympic medalist Natalya Nazarova said.
Moscow may have some of the world's most pollution-choked streets, but now there is a better chance of getting some fresh air and putting your feet to work.
