Russian pole vaulting star Elena Isinbayeva will continue to compete until the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Olympics, her coach said in an interview with R-Sport.
After winning a bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, the 30-year-old athlete told Russian media that she wanted to compete in the next Olympics.“I think she feels frustration from the competition in London, that's why she took such a decision,” coach Evgeny Trofimov said. “Had Elena won in London, I think she would have ended her career.”The 2013 World Championships in Athletics in Moscow is likely to be the next major tournament attended by the two-time Olympic champion and holder of 28 world records."Lena consulted with me, I told her that she has a huge potential, which has to be used. Most importantly, she had a desire to avenge for the not very high results, which she showed at the Olympics," Trofimov said. In London, Isinbayeva (while competing with a partially healed back injury) only managed to clear 4.70 meters, far short of her world record of 5.06 meters.
