Georgians have paid their last respects to their luger, Nodar Kumaritashvili, who died during training in Vancouver. The 21-year-old sportsman was buried in his home village of Bakuriani.

He died after slamming into a steel pole on the luge course just hours before the Olympics' opening ceremony. Kumaritashvili bounced off the track at the speed of 145 km/h (90 mp/h).

Kumaritashvili's death sparked concern over Canada’s safety standards at the Winter Games.

An investigation ruled it was an accident, but it is claimed that the track's design was the major factor behind the sportsman's death.
