England's Luke Donald has been named the PGA Tour's player of the year after finishing the season at the top of the money lists in both America and Europe.

The 34-year-old sealed the double by finishing third at the Dubai World Championship. Donald becomes the first Briton to win the players' poll since it started in 1990. In 26 tournaments so far this season Donald has missed the cut only twice, and recorded twenty top-10 finishes. The only other European to win the award was Ireland's Padraig Harrington, in 2008. Along with his PGA Tour performance, the 34-year-old last week became the first player to win the money title on the PGA Tour and European Tour in the same year. The tour does not disclose the number of votes or who was the runner-up.
