Russia scooped five bronze medals on the seventh day of competition in Beijing, but was denied a gold or silver.

Arkady Vyatchanin took his second medal of the Games in swimming, coming in behind two American competitors. In the 75kg weightlifting event Russian Nadezhda Evstyukhina put in an impressive performance, coming in third place. “Of course I was aiming to win gold, though I knew it would be a tough task for me,” said Evstyukhina after the event. Mikhail Kuznetsov and Dmitry Larionov took another two bronze medals in the men's double canoe slalom. Russia's fifth bronze of the day went to archer Bair Bedenov. A Russian did come in first in gymnastics, but Moscow-born Nastya Liukin was competing for the United States. Her father is a multiple Olympic medal-holder himself, who competed for the Soviet Union at the Seoul Games.
