Tiger Woods is in hospital after emergency services were forced to cut him out of his car following an accident in Los Angeles, with local officials describing the golf legend as “calm and lucid” when they attended the scene.
The accident is said to have happened between Rolling Hills Estates and Rancho Palos Verdes on Tuesday morning, with the LA County Sheriff's Department confirming Woods' involvement.
"The driver and sole occupant was identified as PGA golfer, Eldrick 'Tiger' Woods," the department announced.
Fire Chief Daryl Osby said that pry bars and standard-issue axes had been used to extract Woods from the accident "trouble spot", with the icon and his manager unwilling to "release anything on his condition right now", according to Sheriff Alex Villanueva.
Woods was taken to the best-placed hospital to deal with his injuries rather than the nearest one available, reinforcing accounts that said the 45-year-old's life had not been endangered.
