Russian tennis player Svetlana Kuznetsova produced a stunning comeback in the Citi Open final against Croatia’s Donna Vekic, saving four match points on the way to win her first title of the season.
The two-time Grand Slam winner Kuznetsova, 33, returned to action in March after a wrist surgery and got off to a slow start against Vekic, losing the opening set 4-6.
Vekic could have won the match had it not been for a Kuznetsova fight-back which saw her save four match points to take a tie-break victory in the second set.
The Russian took full advantage in the third set, dominating her opponent to win 6-2 and earn her 18th career WTA singles title.
"In the second set, each of us holding serve, I was some match points down, I just managed to hang in there," Kuznetsova said after the game.

"I knew I was close, I could turn it around, but of course it was really tight in the second set. Then the third set, I felt [Vekic] was really down on herself and she was tired; I felt better and I found my game."
Former World No.2 Kuznetsova, who had slumped to a lowly 128th place in the rankings due to her injury-forced hiatus, has improved her position by jumping to 87th following her success in Washington.
