Emmanuel Macron and his Croatian counterpart Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic exchanged pleasantries in Moscow’s Luzhniki Stadium as their nations prepared to duel for the 2018 World Cup.

Macron, the French President, and Grabar-Kitarovic were joined in the stands by FIFA President Gianni Infantino as Croatia look to claim their first-ever World Cup trophy just 20 years after qualifying for their first ever tournament.

France won that World Cup on their own home soil and, perhaps ominously, defeated Croatia 2-1 in the semi-finals.

Despite the smiles, Grabar-Kitarovic (and all of Croatia) will be keen to secure revenge two decades later.
