We'll be back with more updates later as Russia and Croatia bid to book their place in the semi-finals alongside England.

A fairly comfortable win for England in the end, although Pickford was called on to make three excellent stops.

England posed more threat going forward, and two headers have won it for them - the first for Harry Maguire from a corner, the second from Dele Alli.

The Three Lions march on to Moscow, where they will face the winners of tonight's Russia versus Croatia match.

Full time: Sweden 0-2 England

England are in the World Cup semi-finals for the first time since 1990!

90 mins: Sweden with a free-kick on the edge of the England box, dangerous position, but Augustinsson blasts well over. Sweden's World Cup hopes fading.

5 minutes of added time, not sure where that's come from, but still...

Dele Alli became England's second-youngest ever World Cup scorer with his second-half goal.

84 mins: Another change for England. Jordan Henderson makes way for Eric Dier in midfield. England looking to shut up shop.

82 mins: Lingard is played in by Kane but his shot is blocked on the edge of the box. England seeing this game out comfortably so far. The Three Lions just 10 minutes away from a first World Cup semi-final since 1990...

75 mins: Into the last 15 minutes in Samara. England make their first change as goalscorer Dele Alli makes way for Fabian Delph.

Alli's place in the starting 11 was in doubt, but he delivered with that headed goal.

72 mins: Just as we were saying England were looking the likelier to score, Sweden break and have a golden chance to pull one back. Berg collects in the box and shoots on the turn, but Pickford gets his fingertips on it to push the ball over. The England stopper has been immense today.

70 mins: England looking much the likelier to score the next goal here. Alli and Sterling seeing a lot of the ball in particular.

65 mins: Double change for Sweden as they attempt to get a foothold in the game.

John Guidetti and Martin Olsson are on, Emil Forsberg and Ola Toivonen off.

62 mins: Pickford again with a fantastic stop down to his right to deny Claesson, who shoots from the egde of the box.

Sweden had looked like they were rocking but nearly found themselves back in the game.

Dele Alli heads England into a two-goal lead! He's free at the backpost to nod in a Jesse Lingard cross.

England 2-0 up, fans in dreamline.

GOAL!! Sweden 0-2 England!

54 mins: Ping-pong in the Sweden box after a free-kick comes in, Maguire heads across goal, Streling's attempted overhead kick is blocked, Maguire heads back across again before Sweden finally clear.

The big Leicester defender is proving a handful for Sweden so far.

Gary Lineker is rating that save from Jordan Pickford. The 'keeper was the shootout hero against Colombia, and he's kept his team in front here after that wake-up call early in the second half.

Sweden already showing much more intent this half.

47 mins: Great save! Sweden's Marcus Berg rises at the back post to head the ball downwards and toward the goal, but Jordan Pickford makes a full-stretch save to keep his team ahead. Let-off for England at the start of the second half.

Second half: We're back underway in Samara. England fans with a rendition of 'God Save the Queen' to get things started.

No changes from either side during the break.

First-half stats

England with 59% of the ball to Sweden’s 41%.

Five shots from England but just one on target – the decisive Maguire goal.

Sweden with just one effort on goal, none on target.

Half time: Sweden 0-1 England

England head in at 1-0 up at half time thanks to a Harry Maguire header from a corner. A cagey opening from both teams but the Three Lions finished the half strongly and should have doubled their lead through Raheem Sterling just before half time.

Sweden will need to show a lot more in the second half.

45 mins: Oh Raheem Sterling, if only you could finish... The England number 10 shows lovely control to collect a long ball, he's onside this time and faced with Olsen, but the Swedish 'keeper gets a touch as Sterling tries to round him and the defenders track back to crowd out the attack. England should be 2-0 up.

43 mins: Sterling misses what appears to be a golden opportunity to double the lead after being played through and is one on one with Olsen, but shoots straight at the 'keeper. Luckily for the Man City man, the whistle goes for offside to spare his blushes.

1966 and all that...

England have now scored 10 goals at the 2018 World Cup. The last time they reached double figures was when they netted 11 on the way to winning the title in 1966. Omen?

39 mins: Sweden haven't exactly been roused into life after falling behind. Strangely serene pace to this game still.

Set-piece specialists

Maguire outjumped Emil Forsberg for the goal, with the Swedes appearing to be drawn to the theat from Kane. It was a lovely corner delivery from Young.

Maguire, the man who has spoken of his journey from watching major tournaments as a fan to now playing in them, has a first World Cup goal.

That Maguire goal was timed on 31 minutes. It had been a cagey game up until that point. A lot discussion before the match centered on the set-piece strengths of the teams, and so it proved. England have offered little from open play, but they won't care - they're ahead in a World Cup quarter-final. Sweden will need to come out of their shell.

Harry Maguire powers home a header from an Ashley Young corner! Set-piece kings England do it again.

GOAL!!! Sweden 0-1 England!

Both teams with just the one effort on goal each so far - England's coming from a long-range Kane effort. Cagey opening.

24 mins: Trippier breaks down the right for England and tries to square for a lurking Kane in the box, but Swedish 'keeper Robin Olsen is alert to the danger and gathers the ball.

Last few minutes seeing England press more.

22 mins: England looking to get the ball wide and use Kieran Trippier and Ashley Young as much as possible. Sweden with 9 men behind the ball.

There's half a shout for a penalty from England as a cross comes in and hits a Swedish hand, but it's never a penalty - the ball struck from about a yard away, and the hand was in a natural position.

20 mins: First chance for England. Raheem Sterling breaks with speed, before laying off to Harry Kane on the edge of the box. The England skipper snaps at his shot and it flashes about three yards wide. First sight at goal for the England marksman.

It's hard to understand, being outside the country, how quickly the obsession with the team has reached fever pitch in England.

LEGENDS MAKE WAGER

Former England star David Beckham and Swedish legend Zlatan Ibrahimovic have made a wager ahead of today's game, predictably involving an IKEA shopping trip. Check out more here:

16 mins: Sweden starting to link up better now, Claesson in particular is looking to get on the all and feed it though to the frontmen. England snuff out the danger, but the Swedes growing into the game.

13 mins: Viktor Claesson lets fly from about 25 yards out. It's way over, but England 'keeper Jordan Pickford is furious with the England defence for allowing the Swede to get his shot off trouble-free.

10 mins: So far, so calm in Samara. No chances mustered from either side, England with around 75% of the ball.

A far cry from the action we saw in Kazan between Brazil and Belgium at the moment.

8 mins: First test for England from the long throw of Viktor Claesson, the ball is launched into the box but hits a Swedish hand and a free-kick is given. Both teams looking to capitalize on set-piece strengths today.

5 mins: England save settled into their passing rhythm a little more now, but still no signs of urgency to get forward.

3 mins: Some early nerves from both teams with misplaced passes and poor first touches. Quiet opening so far in Samara.

KICK-OFF: We're underway in Samara, Sweden in their traditional yellow, England in red. Yesterday saw some cracking quater-final action. More of the same please, Sweden and England.

SAMARA

It's a balmy 27C in Samara today as the city hosts its sixth and final World Cup game.

It's the first time either team has played at the 45,000-seater Samara Arena - aka Cosmos Arena. Whose World Cup campaign will continue to blast off? We'll find out once play gets underway in less than 10 minutes.

HEAD TO HEAD

This is the 24th time the teams have met, and they share an identical win record in their previous encounters with seven wins apiece and nine draws.

It’s the third time they’ve met at the World Cup, but it's the first time in the knockout stages, after playing out group stage draws in 2002 and 2006.

England are aiming to reach the semi-finals for the first time since 1990, while the Swedes are aiming to reach that stage for the first time since 1994.

England have only beaten Sweden once in their last eight games, however, with five draws and two defeats in that time.

TEAM NEWS

We’re straight in with some team news for you.

The big news for England is that Dele Alli starts in midfield despite debates about his fitness, meaning an unchanged 11 from the team that started against Colombia.

Swedish boss Janne Andersson makes two changes from the team that beat Switzerland in the last 16, with Emil Krafth coming in at right-back for the suspended Mikael Lustig, and Sebastian Larsson returning from a ban to step in for Gustav Svensson in midfield.

England in a 3-5-2, while Sweden line up in a 4-4-2.
