Australian rugby star Israel Folau has once again sparked controversy on social media after posting a video on Twitter which was deemed homophobic by many users.

On Monday, the 29-year-old full-back shared a link to an 11-minute video from deceased American evangelist David Wilkerson titled: ‘It’s time to get right with God,’ which contains calls for repentance and includes a number of references to homosexuality.

“With great love I wanted to share this video in the hope that people watch it and think about it,” Folau tweeted.

“Jesus is coming back soon and he wants us to turn to him through repentance and baptism in the name of Jesus Christ (Acts 2:38) please don’t harden your heart.”

In the video, Wilkerson talks about “human sins” and “the importance of turning to baptism,” while images of protesters with rainbow flags emerge on the background. He also refers to tolerance as a sign of modern society’s degradation.

Last month, Folau caused a public uproar after posting a controversial comment on Instagram, saying that gay people will go to hell "unless they repent of their sins and turn to God
