Green Bay Packers wide receiver Trevor Davis has been arrested and charged with making criminal threats over an ill-advised joke he made at Los Angeles Airport referencing ‘explosives.’

Davis was arrested at the Hawaiian Airlines check-in counter when, after being asked security questions about his luggage by an attendant, he turned to a female companion and allegedly asked her "Did you pack the explosives?" NFL.com reports.

The 24-year old was arrested at LAX and taken into police custody, where he posted a $15,000 bond to be released from jail. His court appearance is scheduled for May 3.

“The Packers are aware of the matter involving Trevor Davis,” the Wisconsin-based franchise said in a statement after news of his arrest broke.

“We are in the process of gathering more information and will refrain from making any further comment as it is an ongoing legal matter.”

The woman with Davis was not arrested. The player could be subject to an NFL disciplinary hearing, per the league’s rules.
