Golfing veteran Gary Player wowed the crowds with a hole-in-one at the Par 3 Contest at Augusta, ahead of the US Masters tournament.

The 80-year-old was taking part in the annual pre-Masters competition before the main event gets underway on Thursday.

The nine-time major winner carded his ace on the seventh hole, becoming the oldest player ever to achieve the feat in the contest.

Eight others also shot aces in the Par-3 Contest: Americans Rickie Fowler, Zach Johnson, Smylie Kaufman, Webb Simpson, Jimmy Walker and Justin Thomas, Englishman Andy Sullivan, and Swede David Lingmerth.

Player, however, now has the record for holes-in-one at the event, with this latest ace being his fourth.

American Jimmy Walker won the contest, posting an 8-under-par 19 – a tournament record.

The short-form contest is the traditional warmer to the main event, which tees off today, with young stars Jason Day, Jordan Spieth and Rory McIlory among the favorites for the coveted green jacket.
