The great Irish playwright Oscar Wilde was imprisoned and ostracized for being gay, and for ridiculing Victorian morality, but had he lived today, he may have gotten into even bigger trouble with his progressive views. Why is it so important to be earnest or dead serious in today’s Britain, and what are the costs of imposing new ethics?
