Trouble in Europe and ‘meaningful vote’ (E257)

If you thought Britain was in a state of political chaos you’ve never lived in France. Or Spain. Or Italy. Or arguably even Germany. In France, a diminutive president with even lower public opinion ratings than Theresa May is struggling to hang on to power.

Violent uprisings are spreading across the country and even seeping into Belgium. In Spain, fascism is cool again, at least in Andalusia. In the regional elections, the Vox party of the far-right was the big winner this week. And so it goes on.

So, we invited our resident expert on Europe, Dr. Russell Foster, into the studio to tell us why this is happening.

What’s happening with the pounds, shillings and pence of Brexit? With only weeks to go before we leave the EU, we are still no clearer on who will be taking us there and on what basis; will we leave at all and what would be the political consequence of a decision to remain.

Ross Ashcroft is a broadcaster and co-founder of Renegade Inc. So, just days before the “meaningful vote” we invited him into the studio to find out what he thinks the cost would be of getting it wrong.
