Episode 216

Did you hear the one about the Jewish man, the son of a Rabbi, who got expelled from the Labour Party for anti-Zionism? Our guest this week has been opposing the Israeli government since Golda Meir, but he didn’t start off that way – he was brought up a Zionist. He came into the Sputnik studio to tell us about his upbringing and also about his expulsion from the Labour Party and about the ongoing war between Labour supporters of Israel and their opponents.

Women are grossly under-represented in history even though the past is ‘her story,’ too. Nothing could ever have happened in the world without women. BBC Radio 4 recently ran a poll on the 100 most influential British women in the last 100 years. The TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady nominated five women, including Audrey White. Prominent in the anti-war movement and Labour politics, it turns out that her story goes back further than that. So we invited Audrey to join us on the Sputnik sofa to tell us more.
