The new home-building house of cards

When bosses of house-building companies receive hundred million-pound bonuses to perform a basic commercial role but can’t provide quality products or decent customer service, you know something has gone wrong. Government subsidies like ‘Help to Buy’ have gone straight from the bank accounts of home buyers into the pockets of homebuilders, while keeping house prices artificially high. How do the so-called ‘home builders’ get away with it? And what about the new homeowner’s who, having made the biggest purchase of their lives, are now stuck in defective sub-standard houses and a legal standoff? Ross Ashcroft is joined by the designer and CEO of Open Systems Lab, Alastair Parvin, and engineer and homebuyer Paul Smith.
