Kiev wasn't going in blind today, with its delegation consulting with both Türkiye and the US, in the hours before it finally sat down with Moscow's negotiators. Trump says he was betting on a sit down with Vladimir Putin. That's as all the delays and rumblings from Ukraine seem to have left Washington pessimistic about events in Istanbul. The Kremlin agrees that for peace to prevail, a summit between the Russian and American leaders is key.
