A moment for the history books - Russia and the US hold their first high-level meeting in years. Hosted by Saudi Arabia, the two sides spoke on a wide range of issues – from normalization of bilateral ties to peace in Ukraine. The American side praises the talks as a huge leap forward and agrees that a permanent peace is the only acceptable end to the Ukraine conflict. Not at the table in Riyadh? Vladimir Zelensky. But that didn’t stop him from travelling to other countries in the region, including Turkiye, where previous peace talks stalled in 2022. Also left out in the cold was the EU. So a few European leaders held their own talks where the emphasis was on ramping up arms supplies and keeping up the fight. But some say the battle is already lost.
