The ransomware cyberattack on the massive Colonial Pipeline has Americans panicking at the pump and prices rising, even as US officials try to assuage public anxieties and send profoundly mixed signals to truckers. China is laying claim to the Whitsun Reef, a miniscule landform near the Philippines just South of the Spratly Islands. China has sent hundreds of fishing ships in an oddly militaristic formation while denying the presence of naval personnel. Infuriated by the gesture, the Philippines is making haste to build a naval installation at the reef and to fortify other parts of the South China Sea and the highly-contested Spratly Islands.
