The News with Rick Sanchez - April 23, 2019 (20:00 ET)

Killing Christians doesn’t matter to corporate media

Steve Malzberg (in for Rick Sanchez) discusses the latest details of the Easter Massacre in Sri Lanka and the dearth of mainstream media coverage concerning the persecution of Christians around the world. He points out that the comparatively apolitical story of the Notre Dame fire was all-too-convenient for establishment media, whose reporting led to online searches for news about the fire outnumbering searches for news about Sri Lanka bombings seven to one.

Iran and China flex muscles despite US pressure

Iran has threatened to block the Strait of Hormuz in response to the US decision not to renew waivers to their sanctioning of those who buy Iranian oil. Former naval intelligence officer John Jordan joins Steve Malzberg (in for Rick Sanchez) to share his geopolitical insights. He argues that Iran probably lacks the ability to completely block the strait.

Germany draws closer to Russia despite US sanctions

The expansion of the Nordstream pipeline in Europe and construction of Nordstream II are on schedule despite US pressure. As Germany draws economically closer to Russia, will it run increasingly afoul of NATO allies and the US? Former US diplomat Jim Jatras joins Steve Malzberg (in for Rick Sanchez) to weigh in. He argues that German Chancellor Merkel is “very weak” and has been “pushed both ways.”
