Fewer nuclear weapons but threat remains

The Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) found that the overall number of nuclear warheads in the world is in decline but that nuclear states are modernizing the weapons that they still possess. SIPRI estimated that the US, UK, Russia, China, France, India, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel had a combined stockpile of 13,865 nuclear weapons at the start of 2019, down from an estimated 14,465 one year prior.
