2012: Apocalypse Now

Movies, science-fiction novels, dubious theories circulating on the Internet: The idea of the end of the world has always been the birthing ground of crazy rumors. The most recent date predicted to be the end of the world was December 21, 2012. The theory involves a somewhat far-fetched interpretation of the Mayan Long Count calendar: According to the beliefs of the pre-Columbian civilization, the world goes through cycles every 5,122 years, resulting in periods of great upheaval. To survive and enter into this ‘new era,’ some pray, but others train.
