Heroes of Fire
Emergency service crews are the first to confront the aftermath of shelling by Ukrainian drones and artillery. Every call-out could be their last, as they are deliberately targeted by the enemy. In this documentary, filmmakers capture the demanding work of rescuers in Gorlovka and Donetsk.
Every firefighter has a personal story. Ilya lost loved ones in shelling by Ukrainian forces and joined the emergency services to save others. Eldar has been fighting for Donbass since 2014 as part of the local militia. He now heads a fire station in Donetsk’s Petrovsky district, where the front line ran for nearly ten years. Roman, a former police officer, first encountered Ukrainian nationalists during the Maidan coup and later returned to defend his homeland.
Today, Donbass is both the front line and home front for them. Their daily reality is a battle against the fires of war, ignited by the Kiev regime.
