The Big Picture with Jelena Norkunaite. UN at 80: What next?

The United Nations is the world’s leading international organization. Yet, its authority has been steadily eroding in recent years, while the institution is increasingly seen as an unwieldy bureaucratic machine.

Why does US President Donald Trump claim that he has personally brought more conflicts to an end than the UN, while accusing the organization of wasteful spending? Why does the United States deny entry to certain foreign delegations? Who really shapes UN policy today – and whose interests does it serve?

We discuss the achievements, failures, and real role of the United Nations in global politics with Aleksandr Bobrov, head of the Diplomatic Studies Division at RUDN University’s Institute for Strategic Studies and Forecasts, and Aleksey Borisov, head of the UNESCO Chair at MGIMO and vice president of the World Federation of United Nations Associations.

Watch “The Big Picture with Jelena Norkunaite. UN at 80: What next?” on RTD website and on RT’s live feed. The time of the broadcast is available on RT’s schedule page.
